英語表現の授業で、お題を与えてある程度まとまった語数の作文を書いてもらうという活動をしている。これまではあまり気にしていなかったのだけれど（この学校では頻繁に作文を書かせる機会もなかったので）、ここにきて対処に迷っていることがある。いわゆる自動翻訳サイトだ。昔はほとんど役に立たない水準だったけれど、最近はかなり性能が上がってきたようで、実際に試してみたら、少なくともうちの生徒が書くよりもずっと良さそうだ。これじゃ、日本語で書いたものを自動翻訳サイトで英語にして提出されてしまったら、公平な評価ができなくなるなぁなんて思っていたのだ。実際、時間の都合で作文を宿題にしてしまったことがあって、次の時間に提出されたものを見てみると、どうやら自動翻訳サイトの利用を窺わせるような作文がひとつあった（正直なところ、ひとつだけだったのが意外だった）。
